Handling Emergency

Emergency - it's almost always someone's drama, someone's in trouble. And someone else's misfortune, as is well known, does not happen. Anyone who witnessed the emergency or even heard of it, could not help "tries" it at your own risk, sympathizes with the victims. From the epicenter of the tragedy of anxiety and sadness vary among people, like circles on water. This phenomenon is magnified by the media, so that the "virtual" witness emergencies become the general population: the people of the district, region, country, and at a given scale events - virtually all of humanity.

That's why now more than ever is especially important issue of the impact of emergency situations (ES) for the mental health of large communities of people and for the mental health of the nation as a whole.

People with mental and behavioral disorders (BPD) who live in the community, by reason of his illness, of course, affect their environment. In addition, the observed incidence of BPD nosological level is only a small part of the respective prenosological mental problems, so to speak, an authorized representative of the medical statistics. Therefore, the influence of people with BPD on society, as can be expected, in general, significantly more than their numerical weight in it.

This calls for the need to consider not only the direct effects of disaster on mental status of people affected by them, but also the reverse effect - the mental health of the population on the likelihood and nature of the emergency.

Remains relatively stable incidence of schizophrenia, schizotypal, delusional and affective disorders, as well as repairing organic origin, ie incidence of disorders, the genesis of which, in the modern view, is greatly influenced by heredity.

Disorders of psychological development and mental retardation, as is well known, manifest in childhood. Meanwhile, the number of children in our country due to the rapid decline in fertility decreases faster (as compared to the total depopulation) pace. With this in mind, it becomes clear that the reduction of the incidence of mental disorders and mental retardation are simple consequences of reducing the proportion of children and young people in the population - it is aging.

Reduce morbidity neurotic, stress-related and somatoform disorders, presumably associated with the development of industrial production and, as a consequence, a certain improvement of the social and economic conditions in the country, which takes place in recent years. It comes together with a decrease in the growth rate of other indicators of social problems such as crime and suicide.

Perhaps this shows a provocative role of stress factors in the manifest schizophrenia in individuals with established her predispozitsiey. It is also possible that the increased frequency of man-made disasters and manifestation of schizophrenia guilty urbanized way of life or any other, yet unknown factor. Finally we can not exclude the fact that the incidence of schizophrenia is only the visible tip of the iceberg of relevant prenosological behavior disorders that increase the risk of man-made disasters on the objects. In favor of the latter two hypotheses indicated by the absence virogidnoy regression relationship between schizophrenia and emergency situations of natural origin.
